For Immediate Release
Yuk Yuk’s Ottawa, 292 Elgin Street
In our tradition of bringing the very best in International Comedy to the Annual Pride Week Celebrations in Ottawa Yuk Yuk’s is pleased to present our 8th annual Laugh Out Proud Show. This year’s headliner is former Canadian, current sensation Carla Collins.
Carla is an award-winning comedian, actress, television host and writer. A gifted stand-up, she has been hailed by the Canadian press as “Canada’s Tina Fey” and the “Queen of Comedy” and performs all over the United States and Canada. Carla is also a regular at the Hollywood Improv, The Comedy Store and the liquor store in Los Angeles. You can catch Carla in the Showtime television special “Hot Tamales Live!” this fall.
Collins’ hysterical television series “Carlawood” is a hit with viewers and critics alike.”Carlawood” can be seen on TVtropolis and the Global Reality Channel.
Collins is the subject of a documentary film entitled “Who the Hell is Carla Collins?” which is currently shooting in LA. Carla’s first book “Angels, Vampires and Douche Bags” released by Burman Books is touted as the world’s first comedic motivational tome. This bestselling book has received unanimous glowing reviews. Carla is also a contributor for More Magazine and the Huffington Post. Collins was the first woman in Canada to anchor a major market morning radio show on Toronto’s Mix 99.9.
Also appearing on this wonderful lineup is Toronto’s Andrew Johnston….
Since arriving in Toronto in 2005, Andrew Johnston has quickly made a name for himself as one of the ass-rocking, hottest up & comers on the comedy scene. The winner of the Toronto regional “The Great Canadian Laugh-Off” in its inaugural year, Andrew was added to the Yuk Yuk’s roster, started touring and has spread both his signature style of comedy and murky-yet-puissant seed from burg to berg.
Beyond that, you may recognize him as the other gay guy on MuchMusic’s “Video On Trial”, as the SEVERELY underused street reporter on Slice Network’s “Three Takes”, and as host and producer of the widely lauded monthly live comedy show “Bitch Salad” at Buddies In Bad Times Theatre. Also an avid blogger, his blog – bitchsalad.blogspot.com – was recently named “Best Discovery” by Now Magazine.
…AND your host Ted Morris
Born in Ottawa and now making his home in Toronto, Ted discovered his love of stand-up while getting his degree in veterinary medicine. He now splits his time as a small animal vet by day and stand-up comic at night,- although it’s much more gratifying to “kill” on stage.
His TV appearances include two stand-up specials for Pridevision TV (as both a performer and producer), The Toronto Show, The Comedy Network’s “Canadian Comedy Shorts”, MuchMoreMusic’s Heat Meter, Comedy Now!, The Smart Woman’s Survival Guide and as a frequently requested pop culture pundit on CityTV’s Breakfast Television.
