National Potato Chip Day March 14
Do you loooooooove potato chips, as much as we do? Yum Yum Yum,! Today is an awesome day! National Potato Chip Day!
We learn a bit about the potato chip as a special nod to my mum who was a true aficionado.
FUN FACT: In Scotland and other parts of the UK they are called ‘crisps‘. (To Brits, chips are what we in North America call french fries.)
Did you know…
That, and according to Kidz World, the potato chip was invented in 1853 as a joke when a chef was tired of a customer complaining that the restaurant’s fried potatoes were too soggy? Well, rumor has it that a hotel chef in Saratoga Springs, New York, George Crum, set his mind to figuring out how to please a difficult patron who constantly sent back his fried potatoes for being too soggy. Crum decided to slice the potatoes as thin as possible and deep fry them until they were extra crispy. His new potatoes instantly became a smash hit and were added as a regular feature on the hotel menu as “Saratoga Chips.”
